Anyone who watched the Haskell Invitational and Monmouth Park on Sunday evening was treated to a great race. Bob Baffert and Martin Garcia might just be the best 1-2 punch in horse racing after Coil broke from dead last to win by a neck over Shackelford, the favorite and Preakness winner. However, in this post we debate whether Coil was the best horse in the field and if he deserved to win this race.
Here is the recap of the 136th Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland on Saturday, May 21st 2011. Congratulations to winner Shackleford ridden by Jesus Castanon and trained by Dale Romans. Shackleford denied Animal Kingdom a chance at the triple crown in what turned out to be a well fought race.
Here is the recap of the 137th Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky on May 7th, 2011. Congratulations to winner Animal Kingdom ridden by John Velazquez and trained by H. Graham Motion. Ironically Velazquez was supposed to ride the previous favorite, Uncle Mo, before he scratched on Friday morning.
