2013 Blue Grass Stakes Post Position and Analysis

And down the stretch they come....the prep races that is. We're three weeks away from the first Saturday in May, which means the final frenzy of Kentucky Derby prep races are in full swing. The two big races today are the Arkansas Derby and the Blue Grass Stakes.
Uncaptured is the early line favorite at 7-2 with Rydilluc and Java's War right behind at 4-1. Uncaptured has won six of eight career races finishing out of the money only once. His most recent was a place in the Spiral Stakes (G3). Java's War came in second in the Tampa Bay Derby (G2) and his loss to Dynamic Sky in the Breeders' Futurity (G1) feels like a long time ago. Rydilluc has won three straight under jockey Edgar Prado, including his most recent win in the Palm Beach (G3). His challenge in this race will be coming from the 13 post.
Dynamic Sky finished fourth in his most recent race, the Tampa Bay Derby (G2). If Joel Rosario can handle him right on the rail, he may be able to pull an upset. Undrafted's never won a stakes race, but has finished third in his last three, including his most recent the Swale (G2). Garrett Gomez rides Palace Malice for the first time who finished a disappointing 7th in the Louisiana Derby (G2). Rounding out the field are My Name Is Michael, Channel Isle, Charming Kitten, Tesseron, Footbridge, Balance the Books, West Hills Giant, Fear the Kitten and alternate Divine Ambition.
Uncaptured is a reasonable favorite and should easily finish in the money. We're looking at Java's War for the upset and Dynamic Sky and Palace Malice will make some of our exotics. We're also looking at Fear The Kitten as a longshot.
