He's Back! Sidney's Candy Blows Away the Field in the La Jolla Handicap.

I don't know where he went, but last Saturday Sidney's Candy announced presence commandingly in the La Jolla Handicap. Sidney came into his turf debut armed with a new jockey (Joel Rosario), and carrying the most weight in a pretty good field.
I expected Sidney's Candy to be there at the finish, but how he got there was a complete surprise. Sidney was at the front from the start. By the first turn he and Macias had stepped into an all out speed duel that lasted down most of the back stretch and left me thinking that my trifecta box was going to die with an exhausted Sidney's Candy. Luckily for me, that didn't happen. Macias fell away by the final turn and left Sidney's Candy with an 11 or 12 length lead on the field. There would be no tiring for Sidney today as he flew down the stretch to a 5 or 6 length win. Not only did he win, he set a new track record for the distance! While it wasn't the most exciting race of the weekend it certainly was the most surprising-pleasantly surprising.
Of course the question is where does trainer John Sadler and owner Jenny Craig take Sidney now? Do they keep him on the west coast? Is the turf his new domain? Do they ship him east for a big turf race? Or for any race? I wouldn't venture a guess as to what their plans are for Sidney, but I can guarantee you that I'll have a little money on him.
