Goldencents is an Into Mischief and Golden Works colt. He won the Sham Stakes (G3) and the Delta Downs Jackpot (G3), but his most impressive victory was a win the the Santa Anita Derby (G1) on April 6th.
An interesting side story with Goldencents' road to the Kentucky Derby is jockey Kevin Krigger. The first African American to win the Santa Anita Derby, Krigger has been vaulted from obscurity to center stage. He's been Goldencents regular jockey and will now try to become the first African American to win the Kentucky Derby.
"It's a lifetime achievement," Krigger said. "It's going to mean everything to me. Every horseman dreams about getting into the Run for the Roses."
Trainer Doug O'Neill won last year's Kentucky Derby with horse I'll Have Another. He appears to have another winning team with Goldencents and Kevin Krigger. This team will definitely be on our shortlist for Kentucky.
