Kentucky Derby Contenders - Day 18: #13 Tapiture

Tapiture is a Tapit and Free Spin Colt who broke his maiden in the G2 Kentucky Jockey Club last November. He followed that performance with a win in the G3 Southwest Stakes and a place in the G2 Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn Park.
His fourth place finish in the G1 Arkansas Derby was a disappointment and many are rooting against this colt because of his ongoing investigation into his trainer. Despite that, Asmussen believes he's got a winner.
"I was very pleased with his work," Asmussen said. "Not the trip we were hoping for in the Arkansas Derby. He has spent a lot of time here at Churchill Downs - was really happy with how relaxed he was with just running last Saturday. Didn't need a lot. Just wanted to see how he moved over the race track."
Despite the 4th place finish in the Arkansas Derby, he has enough points to run for the roses. He'll probably end up in a few of our exotics, but we don't believe he's a good bet to win.
Check back tomorrow when we preview #12 on our list, California Chrome.
