Kentucky Derby Contenders - Day 19: #12 California Chrome

California Chrome was #12 on the Kentucky Derby list as of the first of April, but his dominating victory in the Santa Anita Derby has catapulted him up the leader board and put him in first with 150 points heading into the Kentucky Derby. He is undefeated in all three of his starts this year and he's looked good in his latest workouts.
"Victor said he went great," trainer Art Sherman said. "The track was immaculate. He'll have his final workout next Saturday and ship early Monday morning (April 28) for Kentucky. There were some 30 people here today to see him work. He galloped out (five furlongs) in 1:01. Everything went great."
California Chrome will go off as the favorite and he's definitely a hard horse to ignore. That said, he'll face more speed in Kentucky and without a good post position and a strong start, he'll have a much larger challenge in front of him. We'll probably play him in exotics, but his odds alone will be reason not to bet him to win.
