Kentucky Derby Contenders - Day 19: #12 Oxbow

Oxbow, a Awesome Again sired and D. Wayne Lukas trained colt, has enough points to run in the Kentucky Derby. The question is, does it matter - can he win? Sure, longshots have won before and any horse can wake up and decide to run that day - but will Oxbow?
He had a forgettable 2 year-old campaign, breaking his maiden in his fourth attempt. He started off 2013 with a win in the Lecomte (G3), but that was followed up with a fourth place finish in the Risen Star (G2). He bounced back for a place in the Rebel Stakes (G2) but ended up fifth in the Arkansas Derby (G1).
It's not that he's a bad horse, not at all. It's just a question of whether or not he can stand up to the competition of Verrazano, Orb, Goldencents, Overanalyze, and the rest of a strong field of contenders. We don't think he can, so he won't make our shortlist right now.
