War Story is a gelding sired by Northern Afleet and trained by Thomas Amoss. In 5 races he's never finished out of the money, with his most recent being a show in the G2 Louisiana Derby. He's currently working out at Churchill Downs for an expected run on the first Saturday in May.
"We chose to work him with blinkers off, which is an idea that we're considering for his next start, and the work went well," trainer Thomas Amoss said. "He's got an affinity for the Churchill track—he won over it in his first start—and he showed that today in his work and how he finished up. Speaking to majority owner Ron Paolucci after the work, I think we're looking toward the Kentucky Derby with him."
For jockey Joe Talamo, War Story offers possible redemption. He was set to ride I Want Revenge in the 2009 Kentucky Derby when the colt was scratched the morning of the race after he reportedly hurt an ankle on a muddy Churchill downs track on Friday morning.
War Story is one to keep an eye on. A different strategy in a large field may make for a very interesting race out of this horse.
