Liaison is an Indian Charlie and Galloping Gal colt. He has three wins in seven careers starts. His most recent race was the Santa Anita Derby where he was beaten out by I'll Have Another and Creative Causes and ended up with a sixth place finish. He's also only raced the California tracks - Santa Anita, Hollywood Park and Del Mar - which always concerns me going into the Kentucky Derby.
It's not that the California tracks don't offer a challenge, quite the contrary. Santa Anita, Hollywood Park, and Del Mar feature some of the best horses with the best jockeys anywhere in the world. My concern is that the east coast dirt (non-synthetic) tracks are very different. Not every horse handles them well. That reason alone has Liaison off my short list right now. He's still a great horse, but I think Baffert has some others worth watching instead.
