Firing Line is a Simon Callaghan trained horse ridden by Hall of Fame jockey Gary Stevens. After two places in the G1 Los Alamitos Futurity and G2 Robert B. Lewis Stakes, Firing Line won the G3 Sunland Derby and is working out at Churchill Downs in anticipation for May 2.
Despite improving, Firing Line's two second place finishes were behind Dortmund, another horse that continues to improve and will be running for the roses as well. Whether or not Firing Line has improved enough to overtake his rival is still uncertain. However, Gary Stevens has made a career out of winning with a horse like this one, making him hard to bet against.
The competition will be stiff, and we don't see Firing Line pulling out the victory. He will likely, hoever, be featured in some of our exotics.
