Kentucky Derby Contenders - Day 24: #7 Carpe Diem

Carpe Diem is another contender out of Todd Pletcher's stable. He's never finished lower than second and won the G1 Breeders Futurity, G2 Tampa Bay Derby, and G1 Blue Grass Stakes. Carpe Diem is currently working out under jockey John Velazquez and, so far, Pletcher likes what he sees.
"I thought he worked super," the trainer said. "Seemed like his energy level is good and he galloped out really well. He was kind of hard to pull up in the end, which is always a good sign... in his particular case, with a month between races, we're just looking for two maintenance works and you could tell by the way he galloped out today—he was all the way back at the half-mile pole before Johnny could really get him pulled up—so he's a fit horse."
Carpe Diem will be on everyone's radar for the first Saturday in May and we're no exception. He's peaking at the right time and should put on a great show.
Check back tomorrow when we preview #6 on our list, Dortmund.
