Kentucky Derby Contenders - Day 24: #7 Govenor Charlie

Govenor Charlie is a Bob Baffert trained, Midnight Lute sired colt. He broke his maiden in his second attempt and then went on to break the track record en route to a five-lengths win at the Sunland Derby (G3). He's currently training at Churchill Downs in preparation for the Kentucky Derby, though he was sidelined by a foot injury earlier.
"His foot was bugging him a couple of days ago, so we thought we better check it out and sent him to Dr. (Larry) Bramlage at Rood & Riddle for a bone scan, which came up negative," Baffert said. "He was just off one morning; it may have been just a slight bruise."
The negative to this horse is also a positive. He never raced as a two year-old, so he hasn't faced much competition. We like the Bob Baffert / Martin Garcia combination, so Govenor Charlie will definitely make our short list.
