Samraat is a Noble Causeway sired colt who went undefeated in his first five starts, including wins in the G3 Gotham Stakes and the G3 Withers. He finished second in the G1 Wood Memorial to Wicked Strong but has more than enough points to qualify for the Run for the Roses.
Samraat worked a half-mile in 49.12 seconds on the main track at Belmont under exercise rider Simon Paine.
"It was perfect - if we did it again, I don't know that we'd want to change anything," said trainer Rick Violette. "It was in hand, he stretched his legs, changed leads and pulled up good; he's acting like he just went out for a little jog. A week away, we'll go our steady mile - next Friday or Saturday - and go from there. It's pretty cool."
His loss in the Wood Memorial to Wicked Strong should be considered heavily, Wicked Strong will end up a favorite in the morning line betting. Samraat did nail Social Inclusion at the wire for second place in that race which shows some spunk. I think he's a longshot to win, but I could easily see him finishing in the money.
Check back tomorrow when we preview #6 on our list, We Miss Artie.
