Day 8: #23 Trinniberg
Trinniberg is a Teuflesberg and Bella Dorato colt. He won the Swale G3 at Gulfstream Park in his three year old debut which shows signs of progress after a disappointing 7th place finish in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Sprint.
One important thing to note, in all of Trinniberg's 2011 starts he wore blinkers, but the blinkers came off for the Swale. "We knew we needed to take the blinkers off," said owner Shivananda Parbhoo. "We actually knew it at Churchill when he was training for the Breeders' Cup, but we didn't want to do it over there. After the Breeders' Cup, we gave him some time off on the farm, and he's like a totally different horse now - more relaxed, easy, not headstrong."
Trinniberg is currently targeted for the Preakness Stakes on May 19th, but the Kentucky Derby is still a possibility. "It all depends on this race," Shivananda Parbhoo said. "If he were to win it easily, there's a good chance we'd talk about the Derby."
We like his chances in the Bay Shore but not in the Derby and feel the Preakness is a better race for him. We'll monitor his run in the Bay Shore and update you if our writers change their opinions.
