Post Time Pete's 135th Preakness Stakes Overview 2010

I've been itching for the last week to post my short list for this year's Preakness but it's hard to short list any horses when only a handful have actually confirmed for the second leg of the triple crown. Watching the way Ice Box ran the Derby, I was really looking forward to seeing him run in the Preakness and probably would have listed him as my favorite. Unfortunately, trainer Nick Zito announced Ice Box would not be running in the Preakness and would be resting for the Belmont. It wasn't a total surprise move since this horse seems to do better on longer rest, but what a rematch it would been.
I've got to commend Calvin Borel for riding a damn near perfect race in the Kentucky Derby on Super Saver. That horse can handle the ran and Borel can handle Churchill Downs like nobody else. The question is on a dry track, does this horse have what it takes to match up against the others? My initial reaction to that was no, but looking at the way the field is shaping up I don't see how I can leave Super Saver out of my Exacta box.
Lookin at Lucky is not confirmed for the Preakness and is riding at hot odds right now. The question is if Baffert decides to run him, who will ride him? Garret Gomez has been confirmed on Dublin and this may be just the shake-up both Dublin and Lookin at Lucky need. Unfortunately Lucky picked up some bad habits recently, namely he can be bullied out of the way and the other riders know this.
They have not settled the field yet and only a handful are confirmed, but my sleeper pick right now has to be Caracortado. I'm not going to post a shortlist yet, not until the field settles and post positions are drawn which will all take place this week. Below is the list of confirmed and pending horses for the Preakness. Check them out and look for more updates in the very near future.
