The 2009 Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra continues to face her recovery from abdominal surgery as a result of foaling complications with the same courage and determination that made her a champion on the track, Stonestreet Farm reported Feb. 20.

When trainer Larry Jones brought owner Brereton Jones' homebred Mark Valeski to Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots for the Jan. 19 Louisiana Handicap, it was the first start in almost eight months for the Proud Citizen runner.

Top sprinter The Lumber Guy, looking to rebound from a disappointing performance in the Malibu Stakes, is part of a well-balanced field for the $200,000 San Carlos Stakes Feb. 23 at Santa Anita Park.
