Defeating four other older fillies and mares, Juddmonte Farms' Close Hatches secured her third grade I with a front-running performance in the $600,000 Apple Blossom Handicap April 11 at Oaklawn Park.
Two-time reigning Horse of the Year Wise Dan dismissed any concerns of rust while opening his seven-year-old season in the same manner as last year, winning Friday's Grade 1, $300,000 Maker's 46 Mile at Keeneland.
Legislation has been introduced in Congress to amend the 1961 Federal Wire Act to ban all forms of interstate wagering except horse racing.
Racing Hall of Fame jockey Edgar Prado was injured in a training accident at Keeneland the morning of April 10 and will be out of action for at least 30 days.
