Dogwood Stable's Palace Malice, a classic winner last year and winner of this year's Metropolitan Handicap in dramatic fashion, has been retired.

Exercise rider Juan Vazquez, 39, died the morning of Sept. 5 following a training accident at Belmont Park, according to the New York Racing Association communications department.

Grade 3-placed Take Charge Brandi will aim for her breakthrough stakes win Saturday, Sept. 6, when she faces an expected nine other 2-year-old fillies in the $200,000 Pocahontas Stakes at Churchill Downs.
